Crocia Events was  flagged during an investigation of the late icon Winnie Mandela funeral for potentially receiving “duplicate payments” for the funerals of three ANC struggle stalwarts. The Flagged company owned by socialites received a contract for Andrew Mlangeni funeral.

The government previously paid Crocia R76M for three funerals in 2018:

- R35.7M for Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's funeral;

- R28.9M for the funeral of Dr Zola Skweyiya

- R11.4m for the funeral of Billy Modise.
Hamilton performed.

The three funerals cost taxpayers a R76M, with government spending. Among other amounts, R7M to hire padded chairs, leather couches and scatter cushions, R2.47M on draping, R470,000 for serviettes and R695,000 on orchestra equipment for Madikizela-Mandela and Skweyiya’s funerals.

Public works minister Patricia de Lille suspended her controversial director-general Sam Vukela on Wednesday, saying corrupt cadres brought the names of struggle icons into disrepute.
